Changing Your Password: User Account and OWA

Please use this guide to self-manage your OWA/Domain passwords BEFORE submitting a ticket.

If your account is already locked out and you need to submit a ticket, please make sure to include an alternative method of contacting you so that TSU can inform you of your temporary password (ie. an extension or personal number). Refer back to this guide to change your password to something of your choosing after you can successfully log in.

Option 1: From any MCSO PC

You can change your own password without submitting a ticket by performing the following steps:

  1. Log into an MCSO computer with your user name (FirstLastname) and current password.
    • Make sure that whenever you change a password, that it is on YOUR personal log in and not a generic account (ie. Patrol or Custody logins, etc.)
  2. Once logged into the machine, press the following keys at the same time: Ctrl + Alt + Delete
  3. This will bring up a menu with the “Change password…” option that looks like one of the following examples:
    • Windows 7 Menu:

  4. Click “Change a password” and you will be shown something similar to the following screen.
    • Enter your username as such: MARINSO\FirstLast
    • Then enter your current password, your new password and confirm your new password before pressing the Next arrow

  5. After saving, close your browser.

  2. Contain at least one uppercase and one lowercase letter
  3. Contain at least one number
  4. Contain at least one special character
  5. Not be a dictionary word or proper name
  6. Not be the same as your User ID
  7. Passwords will expire within a maximum of 90 days
  8. New passwords cannot be identical to the last 10 previously used passwords

If you’ve forgotten your password and cannot log in to perform the steps listed above, please submit a ticket to http://helpdesk.marinsheriff.org/ so that a member of TSU can assist you.

Since passwords will be expiring every 90 days, this means that you will receive a prompt to change your password every 3 months. It is recommended to download a secure password app that you can store your passwords in.
